Terms of Service
Last updated: May 20, 2026
By using Prorate Calculator, you agree to the terms below. If anything here is unclear, email us before relying on a calculation for an important decision.
What this site is, and what it is not
We publish a proration calculator and articles that explain how proration works in the most common scenarios: rent, salary, subscriptions, and utility bills. The calculator gives you a numerical estimate using the standard daily-rate formula recognized by accountants and many state landlord-tenant statutes. It is not legal advice, tax advice, or financial advice for your specific situation.
Accuracy
We work hard to keep our formulas, examples, and source citations correct, and we revisit content regularly. Even so, real-world contracts vary. A specific lease, payroll policy, or service agreement may use a different proration method than the one we describe. Always read the actual document that governs your situation, and verify any number that affects a payment before sending or receiving it.
Disputes about money
If you and a counterparty (a landlord, employer, or service provider) disagree on a prorated amount, our calculator can help you check the math, but it cannot decide who is right. Disagreements come down to the contract and applicable law in your jurisdiction. For meaningful sums, consult an attorney or a licensed advisor in your state.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Prorate Calculator and its operators are not responsible for losses, damages, or claims arising from your use of the calculator, articles, or any third-party content linked from this site. Use everything here as a starting point, not a final answer.
Acceptable use
You may use the calculator and the articles for personal, professional, or commercial purposes. You may not scrape the site at high volume, attempt to disrupt service, or republish article content as your own. Linking to our pages from your own articles or internal documentation is welcome and encouraged.
Intellectual property
The calculator interface, article text, illustrations, and source code are owned by Prorate Calculator or its licensors. The proration formula itself is a public mathematical method and is not owned by anyone.
Changes
We may update these terms when laws change, when we add new tools, or when an article changes substantially. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the current version. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
